Super Metroid

This is the third Metroid game in the series, the forth will be on Nintendo Gamecube. The original was on the NES in 1986, the second on the Game Boy in 1991. This was released in 1994, the same year as Donkey Kong Country, very late in the Super Nintendo's life, a year before we saw the Sony Playstation.

The game follows the story of the previous games. Samus Aran, a bounty hunter, first battled the Metroids on planet Zebus, and destroyed the leader of the Space Pirates, the evil Mother Brain (Metroid). Then at the end of the game (if you complete it fast enough) Samus will remove the suit and it is then clear that Samus is a girl!

Then she battled the Metroids again on their homeworld, killing every last one on the planet, until she comes to a Metroid Larva, which she takes with her(Metroid 2).

At the beginning of the third game, she leaves it in the hands of scientists to study it. But Ridley, one of Mother Brain's creatures, steals the larva. So Samus follows Ridley back to Zebus for another confrontation with the Metroids(and maybe Mother Brain will show up....of course she does). Anyway, Metroid is a fantastic game and it takes many hours to fully explore. There is so much to do, and even when you defeat Mother Brain, there is always more Energy Tanks and Missile Containers to find. This is a game you will always play over and over.
