Chrono Trigger
This was made by Squaresoft, the makers of the fabulous Final Fantasy series, late in the Super Nintendo's life. It is an RPG (Role-Playing Game) but if different that the FF series. The battles are the same, except you see the enemies before you fight them, you can do combination attacks as well. Later in the game, each character, Chrono, Frog, Marle, Lucca, Robo and others are granted magic powers, each character gets a certain element. You can, for example, cast a combination of Fire and Ice.
The story is like this. It is the year 1000, and Chrono is excited about the Millenium Festival. He goes to see his friend Lucca has a new invention. It warps you from one module to another. But the strange pendant the girl Chrono ran into on his way to the convention had weird effects. They were transported through time, first back then forward. They discover that in the year 1999 the world is destroyed by a creature called Lavos, which fell to earth then hid underneath the earth waiting for the time to be right. When you go back to 65,000,000BC, you see a light in the sky. Lavos is on his way. Later he hits the earth and burrows underground. When you travel into the future you watch a cut-scene from the past (1999) which shows Lavos emerging from the centre of the earth, so they go back and forth through time in an effort to save the world....
Confusing? Well, it is a fascinating game with multiple endings. If you complete the game the first opportunity you get an ending. If you wait until the last possible minute by working your way through every aspect of the game until you have no choice but to fight Lavos, you get a totally different ending. It will take a while to fully explore this mammoth game, but it is worth it.
